YR122- Christian, according to AAMG, is said to possibly have
been the

fellow who purchased land in Brothers Valley Township of what
would

later be Somerset County. From the tax records shown above, unmarried

"Christian Yorder" vanishes from Berks County after
the 1779 tax year. A

single Christian Yoder appears in Brothers Valley in 1783. But
by the 1790

Census this man has gone. What became of him?

We believe the answer to this question lies in an early will
record from Stark

County, OH. Stark County Will book Record A p 75, Written on Sep.7,

1824:

"In the name of God Amen I Christian Yotter of Canton
township in the

County of Stark in the State of Ohio.... I give and bequeath unto
John Gerber

and Christian Yotter Jr. all and singular my goods and chattels
and

personnel estate...."

For many years, we tried to make an Alsatian Yoder link with
this entry,

as Stark County was where many of these immigrants settled. It
did,

however, seem earlier than they were known to be there. By the
1830's one

Christian Yotter (YA7) from Alsace was living in the county. The
research

by Huckel (see YNL28) now establishes the father of this Christian
as John

(Jean) who married Catherine Klopfenstein and died in France..not
a

"Christian". So who are the parties in the 1824 will???

In the 1820 census, Christian Yoder (identified by AAMG as
YR1256), a

nephew, is living in Canton Twp. The John Gerber in Stark County
at this

time is the husband of Anna Yoder (YR173) who would have been
a first

cousin of our Christian. It now seems obvious that this is the
will of our

bachelor Christian leaving his estate to two kinsmen, including
nephew

Christian Jr (meaning "the younger"-not son).

son of

Jacob ... his name is just John Yoder .. no middle name as I had
stated

.. Jacob Valentine Yoder was son of Valentine & Mary (Schrock)
Yoder,

born on family homestead on Dec. 16, 1857. His parents farm was
located in

German Twp., Marshall Co., Indiana - 4 miles West and 1-1/2 mile(s)
North

of Napp(anee). He died Feb. 24, 1909. He married Caroline (Rosena)
Bleile

Jan 17, 1886. She was born in Mettleschlectbach Wurenburg, Germany.

Birth Mar 19, 1869, the daughter of Revenas (sp?) John Jacob &
Rosena

(Breier) Bleile. She came to U.S. with her parents, sister Sophia,
and

brother Fred in 1874 when she was 5-years old. Grandma died June
29, 1955.

.. After their marriage they lived in a house just East of the
Yoder

homestead. Alvin and Jess were born, 5-years later (moved) to
a small

farm on which they had built a new home, barn and other buildings
- located on

the North edge of the Yoder farm. Here Mary (Maude), Harve, Rosena,

William (Bill) were born. From this home ìweî moved
to our auntís and uncleís

farm in St. Joseph County about 1-1/2 mile(s) N.W. of ours.

.. Rosena died and John was born in that little log house while
we lived

there. Soon after we moved back to our own farm, but the house
was too

small for our large family - so we sold it and rented a larger
farm in

Ayr - 1-3/4 mile farther South. Later we moved on a farm 1 mile
East and 1/2

mile South of Napp(annee). Edna was born there. Soon after that
the farm we

had rented at Ayr was ìup for saleî so we bought
that (...) and moved back.

.. * Fatherís sister Barbara from Kaloma, Iowa, came to
live with us.

We had a room built for her onto our house, but she wasnít
well and on July

2, 1907 she passed away. That evening on July 4, 1907 - the day
of the

funeral Alma was born. Alma was born July 4, 1907.

.. Grandma Bleile died the next year July 10, 1908 so the Bleile

homestead 2-1/4 mile S.E. of Napp(annee) was for sale, so we bought
it

and moved there. ìFatherî wasnít well and
the next winter had an operation for

Sclerosis of the liver in Goshen Hospital. He died following that
on Feb

24, 1909.

.. Mother supervised the farm, and after all eight of the children
were

married, Edna and her family moved in with her. After mother passed
away

on June 29, 1955 following a stroke, Edna and her husband (Russell

Hostetter) took over the home and farm where our grandparents
and great-

grandparents had lived, which has many fond memories for the children,

grandchildren and great grandchildren who survive.î ...........

YR122- Christian, according to AAMG, is said to possibly have
been the

fellow who purchased land in Brothers Valley Township of what
would

later be Somerset County. From the tax records shown above, unmarried

"Christian Yorder" vanishes from Berks County after
the 1779 tax year. A

single Christian Yoder appears in Brothers Valley in 1783. But
by the 1790

Census this man has gone. What became of him?

We believe the answer to this question lies in an early will
record from Stark

County, OH. Stark County Will book Record A p 75, Written on Sep.7,

1824:

"In the name of God Amen I Christian Yotter of Canton
township in the

County of Stark in the State of Ohio.... I give and bequeath unto
John Gerber

and Christian Yotter Jr. all and singular my goods and chattels
and

personnel estate...."

For many years, we tried to make an Alsatian Yoder link with
this entry,

as Stark County was where many of these immigrants settled. It
did,

however, seem earlier than they were known to be there. By the
1830's one

Christian Yotter (YA7) from Alsace was living in the county. The
research

by Huckel (see YNL28) now establishes the father of this Christian
as John

(Jean) who married Catherine Klopfenstein and died in France..not
a

"Christian". So who are the parties in the 1824 will???

In the 1820 census, Christian Yoder (identified by AAMG as
YR1256), a

nephew, is living in Canton Twp. The John Gerber in Stark County
at this

time is the husband of Anna Yoder (YR173) who would have been
a first

cousin of our Christian. It now seems obvious that this is the
will of our

bachelor Christian leaving his estate to two kinsmen, including
nephew

Christian Jr (meaning "the younger"-not son).

Below is a little history from my father. My grandfather is the
son of

Jacob ... his name is just John Yoder .. no middle name as I had
stated

before. My father's name is Royce Allen Yoder. Let me know if

Jacob Valentine Yoder was son of Valentine & Mary (Schrock)
Yoder,

born on family homestead on Dec. 16, 1857. His parents farm was
located in

German Twp., Marshall Co., Indiana - 4 miles West and 1-1/2 mile(s)
North

of Napp(anee). He died Feb. 24, 1909. He married Caroline (Rosena)
Bleile

Jan 17, 1886. She was born in Mettleschlectbach Wurenburg, Germany.

Birth Mar 19, 1869, the daughter of Revenas (sp?) John Jacob &
Rosena

(Breier) Bleile. She came to U.S. with her parents, sister Sophia,
and

brother Fred in 1874 when she was 5-years old. Grandma died June
29, 1955.

After their marriage they lived in a house just East of the Yoder

homestead. Alvin and Jess were born, 5-years later (moved) to
a small

farm on which they had built a new home, barn and other buildings
- located on

the North edge of the Yoder farm. Here Mary (Maude), Harve, Rosena,

William (Bill) were born. From this home ìweî moved
to our auntís and uncleís

farm in St. Joseph County about 1-1/2 mile(s) N.W. of ours.

Rosena died and John was born in that little log house while we
lived

there. Soon after we moved back to our own farm, but the house
was too

small for our large family - so we sold it and rented a larger
farm in

Ayr - 1-3/4 mile farther South. Later we moved on a farm 1 mile
East and 1/2

mile South of Napp(annee). Edna was born there. Soon after that
the farm we

had rented at Ayr was ìup for saleî so we bought
that (...) and moved back.

* Fatherís sister Barbara from Kaloma, Iowa, came to live
with us.

We had a room built for her onto our house, but she wasnít
well and on July

2, 1907 she passed away. That evening on July 4, 1907 - the day
of the

funeral Alma was born. Alma was born July 4, 1907.

Grandma Bleile died the next year July 10, 1908 so the Bleile

homestead 2-1/4 mile S.E. of Napp(annee) was for sale, so we bought
it

and moved there. ìFatherî wasnít well and
the next winter had an operation for

Sclerosis of the liver in Goshen Hospital. He died following that
on Feb

24, 1909.

Mother supervised the farm, and after all eight of the children
were

married, Edna and her family moved in with her. After mother passed
away

on June 29, 1955 following a stroke, Edna and her husband (Russell

Hostetter) took over the home and farm where our grandparents
and great-

grandparents had lived, which has many fond memories for the children,

grandchildren and great grandchildren who survive.î ...........
